Why you Should Start Career Days with your Child
When your child is young they are constantly being asked “What do you want to be when you grow up?” For many children they really just don’t know the answer to that question just yet. They might give you a fictional character or something of a dream instead of a career, but the true answer is they probably don’t know yet and that is okay. Give you child every opportunity to find out under your supervision.
It Gives Them Real World Experience
When children see what others do to make a living they get a better understanding of the world around them. They start to understand where all the adults go when they go to school. This can also help them see the purpose in the different jobs there are. For example when a child sees that a firefighter saves peoples lives but also provides support and protection to their community a child can feel inspired and excited to find a career one day.
Helping them Understand Finances
When a child sees that people get paid to do a job and that the money they make helps support their life and their family. This helps them have a better understanding of the way the world works and where money comes from. This can be very important for the trajectory of their life and the potential careers they would end up choosing.
You Learn More About their Own Interests
When you visit people in other careers your child can start to see if that is something they would like to do or not. It is very important to follow your child's lead on career days and to become interested in their interests. When you start to know more about your own child's interests you can better advise them on career paths and schooling in the future. This also helps your child to feel supported in whatever they are interested in choosing for a career.
