How Continue Your Child's Education in the Summertime

The summertime slump is one that we are all aware of and even though children deserve to have a break from the stresses of school and homework it is still very important to make sure your child is still learning during the summer months. Sending your child to summer school or tutoring during the summer can be exhausting and often make them feel spiteful about learning.

These are some suggestions of fun educational activities that will continue your child's education through summer.

Get a Library Card

Reading is a great way to continue your child's educational development. Reading is often an activity that doesn’t always have to feel strictly educational but it can also be very entertaining for children. A suggestion would be to get your child a library card and once a week take them to the library to pick out a couple of books. Treat this activity as a reward for good behavior and eventually you might find your child enjoying reading.

If your child doesn’t like reading or if you have a hard time getting them to enjoy this activity you might want to try incentivising them.  One easy way to insentivise reading is suggesting that after you read a book on something you sit down and watch the movies together.

Get Messy

Try doing fun experiments and crafts that help spark educational engagement. Children often get very excited getting to see what they are learning about in real life. This real life relation can also help reinforce all of the new information they are learning about in school. Maybe ask your child's teacher for recommendations of science experiments that would be fun during the summer.

Learning from Everyday Tasks

The summer months are a great opportunity to help teach your children how to do many different life tasks. Some examples being laundry, cooking, cleaning, mowing the lawn and sewing. This goes for teaching both boys and girls these different tasks, it can help your child also feel a sense of accomplishment and a continued education of life skills.
